Lyford Cay School is an independent, non-denominational, day school. The school is a non-profit-making entity governed by a Board of Directors.

The philosophy of the Lyford Cay School is that '... each student will experience individual success in a secure and challenging learning environment'; to this end a broad curriculum has been developed to serve the many needs of the student population.
