Brussels' English Primary School
Brussels English Primary School (BEPS), founded in 1972, is an English-Language based international school (S.P.R.L), administered by a director and head of school, appointed by the shareholders. A second campus, BEPS - Limal opened in 1992 and a third at Waterloo in 1999.
The International Baccalaureate Primary Years programme (IBPYP) is the framework for the organization of the BEPS curriculum. Children begin their formal studies at age four and have training on computers in the classroom and in the school's computer center. The average class size is 15. All children learn French at a beginner, intermediate or advanced level.
The staff come from a variety of backgrounds. They average 10 years of teaching experience, five at BEPS. All are fully qualified. The student body is highly international with 41 nationalities represented, of which 17% is of UK nationality. Upon request, a number of students successfully complete their Common Entrance Examination at BEPS.
The school year extends from the first week in September to the end of June. The school day is from 09.00 to 15.30 and Wednesday is a half-day. Extra-curricular activities are offered including sports, drama, woodwork. computer club and art. Piano and violin lessons are also available. All primary-level children take swimming once a week. Classes 4-7 (8 to 11 years) participate in a one-week residential trip to the Belgian coast or Ardennes. Throughout the year, there is a variety of trips to historical and cultural sites in Belgium.
The Brussels campus adjoins that of the Brussels University at Ixelles. The facilities include 14 classrooms each with a computer, a 9,000-volume library and media center, a kitchen and a woodwork room. There are spacious and attractive outdoor areas, which include a small sports ground for hockey, netball, rounders and football as well as a playground for the younger children. A separate building housing the Preschool is on the school campus.
Admission is based upon previous school records, and an interview with the parents and child.
