Our broad-based Liberal Arts program meets and exceeds the expectations
of the Ontario Ministry of Education. We offer challenging and stimulating
study in English, math, science, humanities and social sciences,
as well as classical studies, dramatic and visual arts, information
and communication technology, modern languages, music, physical
education and religious education.
How Girls Learn
The Havergal College approach to learning is based on substantial
research about how girls learn best. This research indicates that,
in a single-sex classroom, girls show more confidence participating
fully in class, tackling problems and expressing ideas. They demonstrate
greater willingness to take risks and are more likely to pursue
advanced studies in math and science. Girls thrive in a cooperative
and collaborative learning environment.
Spiritual Learning
Havergal College is built on Anglican values. We honour our traditions
and values while respecting diverse faiths. Morning Prayers provide
a school-wide focus for spiritual learning and include Anglican
hymns and prayers, as well as opportunities to learn about other
faiths. Each student is encouraged to reflect on and develop her
own spirituality.
Co-curricular Activities
Havergal offers a wide range of co-curricular activities to meet
the interests of every student.
The program at Havergal College focuses on the development of the
individual as a whole and supports all-round education. The Havergal
program is enriched by outstanding co-curricular activities. Students
pursue their individual talents and interests through excellent
music, performing and visual arts programs, high-calibre athletics
activities and participation in clubs and school life.
Leadership, Community Service & House
At Havergal College, every student from Junior Kindergarten to Grade
12 is encouraged to develop leadership skills and a commitment to
community service.
In addition to elected positions on student council, sports teams
and clubs, our House system provides valuable opportunities for
girls to be leaders and to participate in community service. Throughout
her time at Havergal, each girl belongs to one of ten Houses. As
she progresses through the Junior, Middle and Senior Schools, her
level of responsibility within her House increases. Students in
each House select their own focus for community service work to
help them understand the importance of volunteerism and are encouraged
to develop long-lasting relationships with community groups. In
addition, there are many schoolwide community service activities.
Students at Havergal College are encouraged to pursue individual
areas of interest and a lifelong commitment to community.
