The primary school, built in 1984, is located in Jardine's Lookout,
a quiet residential area overlooking Hong Kong. It benefits from
modern facilities including a swimming pool, library, canteen, gymnasium,
auditorium, and specialist science, computer and language laboratories.
A new secondary school, for the French International School, located
500m from the primary school was completed in January 1999. The
school comprises two streams, French and International. Entrance
to the International stream is by examination (Maths and English),
interview and previous academic reports. The school has a strong
academic emphasis with students taught by highly qualified expatriate
staff. Pupils of the two streams are encouraged to communicate and
socialize and are taught together for PE. Languages are particularly
encouraged with Mandarin and French being taught from Primary. In
Form 1 of the secondary section, Latin or Mandarin is offered. Spanish
is offered from Form 3. All students up to Form 3 have weekly computer
lessons. Sciences are also emphasised with biology, chemistry and
physics being taught in separate specialist laboratories. In Form
4, students choose nine or ten subjects to study to IGCSE level;
English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and French are
compulsory and a further choice is made from 11 other subjects.
The IGCSE public examinations are taken at the end of Form 5 but
may be taken a year early in certain cases. In the International
Stream, Forms 6 and 7 follow International Baccalaureate Diploma
level courses as approved by the IBO in Geneva and recognized for
university matriculation around the world. Ab Initio French is also
offered at this level. All rooms are air conditioned. Pupils may
either use the school canteen facilities on a termly basis or bring
their own packed lunch. Private bus companies operate school transport
to all parts of Hong Kong. A full programme of extra-curricular
activities is prepared each term including swimming, ballet, jazz-dance,
rugby, basketball, art and craft, drama, chess club, tae kwan do,
fitness, choir and orchestra.
