International Schools in Norway

This is the online directory with the main international schools in Norway that offer an Education in English. The programmes vary from the International Baccalaureate (I.B.) programme, which includes PYP, MYP and Diploma to the British GCSE and GCE examination systems. All international schools in Norway are required to satisfy the requirements of the Norweigan national system.

International Baccalaureate Diploma

Norwegian universities and colleges recognise the IB Diploma as fulfilling the general admission requirements for entry to all institutions of higher education. However, some study programmes require that the candidates have taken specific IB subjects. Applicants who have not had their basic education in Norway, must take Norwegian A, A2 or B at minimum Standard level as part of, or in addition to, their IB Diploma.

Norway has a system of coordinated admission to universities, state colleges and some private colleges. Applicants to these institutions send one application form only to the Universities and Colleges Admission Service. One can apply for up to 15 different study programmes. The application deadline is 1 March for IB diploma holders and 15 April for non-IB students.

Conversion scale: IB total points vs Norwegian total points.

42 = 60.0, 41 = 58.6, 40 = 57.1, 39 = 55.7, 38 = 54.3,
37 = 52.9, 36 = 51.4, 35 = 50.0, 34 = 48.6, 33 = 47.1,
32 = 45.7, 31 = 44.3, 30 = 42.9, 29 = 41.4, 28 = 40.0,
27 = 38.6, 26 = 37.1, 25 = 35.7, 24 = 34.3

Only the sum of the 6 subject points is used as a basis for the scale. Applicants from international Schools in Norway are given additional points for bonus points, for certain combinations of subjects and for studies in mathematical and natural sciences.
