The British International School, Bratislava, was established in 1997
by the Nord Anglia Education Group. The school has 230 students aged
from two to 16 years. In September 2005 the school will extend its
age range to 17, and to 18 in 2006. From 2005, the school will be
offering university entrance level courses from the University of
Cambridge, to complement the Cambridge IGCSE qualifications that are
currently available.
The British International School, Bratislava operates a curriculum
based on the National Curriculum of England with modifications to
support the internationally diverse student body. German is offered
to all students from the age of six (Year 2), with French from the
age of eleven (Year 7). Class sizes are small (maximum 20) with
two or more teachers working in the classroom for some or all of
the school day as part of the learning support programme. English
as a Second Language tuition/support is offered in the context of
normal classroom activities or on a withdrawal basis, and there
are specialist teachers for this.
The school aims to offer a harmonious and caring environment with
academic rigour stressed and all students encouraged to achieve
their potential in a wide range of subject disciplines.
British International School, Bratislava is located in two purpose-built
school facilities, within 400 metres of each other, primary students
in one and secondary students in the second. All classrooms are
large, light, and airy, with a full range of educational resources.
There are two libraries, two computer laboratories, two science
laboratories, an art room, and a music room, as well as numerous
audio-visual facilities and classroom based computers. The school
benefits from extensive school grounds and has daily use of gymnasiums
on each site. All students take swimming, when a team of qualified
instructors coaches them.
The British International School, Bratislava is situated 10 km
from the centre of Bratislava in a pleasant suburb of the city.
There is a snack and a hot meal service daily. A wide range of extracurricular
activities are run during lunchtimes and after school. A school
bus service operates.
